Vinyl electrical tape

Did you know? 3M invented vinyl electrical tape in 1946.

While World War II devoured rubber supplies, alternatives were needed and 3M met that challenge. Stronger and less prone to rotting and corrosion than the rubber and/or resin infused cloth in common use at the time, Scotch® Vinyl Electrical Tape was an invention the world was waiting for.

Expert tip

Always use a minimum of two half-lapped layers. Stretch the tape during application until the last few wraps. They should be applied in a more relaxed way to prevent flagging.

Electrical tape is an essential component of any installation, repair and manufacturing project. 3M invented vinyl electrical tape and today we offer a wide variety of durable, reliable electrical tapes, each designed with one or more applications in mind; insulating, protecting, sealing and/or marking.
