3M is seeing an increased demand for respiratory protection products following the outbreak of a newly identified coronavirus (2019 novel Coronavirus, 2019-nCoV). In response, 3M is increasing respirator production to help meet demand, and working with distributors to help ensure they have inventory to meet end-user demand. 3M is committed to supporting the public health and governmental response to the Coronavirus while maintaining supply to existing customers.

Filters
3M™ Particulate Filters are lightweight and easy to breathe through. Several types of filters are available for a wide range of applications, to filter aerosolized particulates including dust, mist, fume, smoke, mould, bacteria and biological particles. Some filters have nuisance-level organic vapour or acid gas relief. 3M also offers Advanced Particulate Filters that are engineered for easier breathing and increased durability for a longer lasting filter.

What are the differences between a respirator filter and cartridge?
Generally, filters are used to protect from exposure to particulates such as dust, mists, fumes, fibres, and bioaerosols. Alternatively, cartridges are used for protection against specific gases and vapours.

Why use a 3M™ Particulate Filter with Gas & Vapour Cartridges for some applications?
Some applications require protection against both particulates (dust, mist, fume, fibres and bioaerosols) and gases and vapours. Cartridges do not protect against particulate and filters do not protect against gases and vapours.

What is the shelf life of 3M™ Cartridges?
Provided they are stored unopened in the original packaging and away from direct sunlight, humidity and sources of high temperature, cartridges will last five years from manufacture date. See “use by” date on packaging.

How should I store my 3M™ Respirator Cartridges and Filters?
Prior to first use and when not in use, your 3M™ Respirator, Cartridges and Filters should be kept clean, cool and dry, away from contaminated atmospheres to avoid deterioration. Store cartridge in a sealed container or bag.

When do I replace my 3M™ Cartridge
The service life (i.e., how long it will last) of any gas and vapour cartridge is affected by many factors such as the: contaminant, contaminant concentration, breathing rate, humidity level, temperature and other use conditions.

- In accordance with your established change schedule or government regulation.

When do I replace my 3M™ Particulate Filters?
Replace 3M™ Particulate Filters when:
- When breathing resistance increases (becomes difficult to breathe comfortably,this will vary from individual to individual)
- If filter is damaged
- Dispose of P-Series filters after 40 hours of use or 30 days, whichever is first.

What is a Fit Test?
Because everyone’s face is different, a fit test is used to determine which make, model and size of face piece fits that individual. Refer to local jurisdictions for specifics of fit testing requirements.

Can I wear a tight-fitting respirator with a beard?
No. Do not use a tight-fitting respirator with beards or other facial hair or other conditions that prevent a good seal between the face and the face seal of the respirator.

Why are the filters and cartridges "pink"?
When a filter or cartridge has the magenta colour code it has the P100 designation. This colour provides uniformity and easy identification.
- How do you calculate the service life of a cartridge?
